Acronyms
Across the Learn to Live Federation and within Devon County Council, there are various acronyms that are used. To help our families, attached is a document detailing the most commonly used.
Bring Your Own Device
To comply with our safeguarding and E-Safety, we have procedures in place with regards devices being brought into school. We do not allow the unrestricted use of smartphones / tablets / cameras or the activation of mobile data (3G/4G) within school property.
If your child or young person wishes to bring their own device into Bidwell Brook, for example iPads, tablets etc, you must complete a "Bring Your Own Device Form". Personal devices which have an internal SIM card are securely locked away during the day and returned to the pupil at home time.
As our students move through college into Key Stage 4 and above, there may be occasions when mobile devices can be brought out of storage and used as part of teaching and learning in the classrooms. Any use of a mobile device in this context, will be under strict supervision from the teaching staff and will require families completing a "Sixth Form Agreement" to allow use of the device in this way.
In Sixth Form, we recognise our students should have greater responsibility and use their devices in an appropriate way. Devices are therefore not locked away, but kept in the student's belongings. Sixth Form students are permitted to check their mobile devices at set times during the day, under supervision. In order for a Sixth Form student to do this, they too need to have completed a "Sixth Form Agreement".
The relevant forms can be accessed on our Policies and Procedures page.
